Study Group Activity

Study Group Activity Wednesday, October 27 Due: November 30

Task Goal: Students will create a Jing tutorial, similar to the Notebook tutorial uploaded to YouTube. Jing will also be used to create an MS Word document to go along with their tutorial. Ideally, the topic will be something that can be used for the online module assignment due at the end of the semester. The Study Group will field test each other's tutorials and give feedback to the other members of the group. Do not wait till the end of November to do this activity. This week you should download Jing and pick a topic to work on for your tutorial. Yes, you can use this as part of the online module assignment.

Task Objectives: Students will do the following:

1. Download Jing and familiarize themselves with the program using both screen recording and screen capture functions.
2. Choose a tutorial topic suitable for use in their upcoming online module assignment and use Jing to record it. Because Jing operates in five minute increments there may be more than one tutorial involved.
3. Create a written tutorial using text and screen captures and save it as a .pdf file.
4. Each Study Group member will go through each other's tutorials (maximum of two other students) and provide specific feedback for improvement. No "good job" is necessary. Does the tutorial leave anything out? Is the sequencing correct? Are the written directions clear?
5. The tutorials will be posted in a Conference during the last week of the course. They can also be used in your online module assignment.

Timeline:

a. Oct 27 - Nov 2, Download and familiarize yourself with Jing.

b. Nov 3 - Nov 9, Pick a topic and develop the written tutorial first. You can also take screen shots along the way.
Then, Post that written tutorial to this Conference for feedback from your Study Group.

c. Nov 10 - Nov 16, Using the written tutorial create one or more Jing recordings of the process.

d. Nov 17 - Nov 24, field test the tutorials. Provide feedback and make corrections.
Post that Jing recording to this Conference for feedback from your Study Group.

e. Nov 30 - Post the Jing tutorial and written tutorial in a post to Class Conference created for these tutorials.
